About
Ahmad M. El-Arabi, MD, FACS
Board-Certified Reconstructive Urologist | Chicago, IL
I am a reconstructive urologist specializing in the surgical management of complex, challenging urologic conditions. My goal is always to be a trustworthy and honest person in all aspects of life, and no area is more important than when I am in the room with a patient.
-
After completing my urology training at the University of Kansas Medical Center, I sought out subspecialty training in Genitourinary Reconstruction at Loyola University Medical Center under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Gonzalez, a world-renowned reconstructive urologist. This fellowship focused intensely on the surgical reconstruction of some of the most difficult problems in urology.
I pride myself on taking care of patients who are facing difficult issues and who may have even had another urologist tell them, “There’s nothing we can do to fix that.” I routinely see problems that can be sensitive for patients to talk about, such as urinary incontinence or erectile dysfunction. In many cases, patients may not have discussed these problems with anyone else.

Surgical Expertise and Robotic Innovation
I have specific clinical interests in abdominal urologic reconstruction, urethral reconstruction, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction. I have also pioneered the use of robotic minimally invasive surgery in urology reconstruction, offering patients cutting-edge, precision-focused approaches to complex anatomy.
Procedures and Focus Areas Include:
Abdominal Urologic Reconstruction: Ureteral strictures, uretero-pelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, and fistulas.
Urethral Reconstruction: Advanced surgical solutions for strictures and stenosis.
Urinary Incontinence: Comprehensive evaluation and surgical correction.
Erectile Dysfunction: Advanced restorative treatments.

Leadership and Academic Roles
At Loyola University Medical Center, I serve as an Assistant Professor of Urology and the Urology Residency Program Director, where I am dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of urologic surgeons. I am also one of key faculty of our Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) fellowship where we are privileged to be training future reconstructive urologists.
Additionally, I serve as the Director of Vasectomy Services at Planned Parenthood of Illinois, bringing high-quality, accessible care to the broader community. -
